Adult Decampment

DECAMPMENT from ADULT. on Vimeo

Adult came to our town screening their film Decampment presented with a live soundtrack.  Whilst waiting inline we had some local art students moaning about the 12 bucks it cost to get in and describe it as a “mid western horror”. I thought that was pretty hilarious, but i now see it’s how it was described on their website. It was filmed entirely in Detroit and i guess we’re desensitized so it didn’t freak us out.

It’s a silent movie and the asthete continues with the themes seen in Nicola Kuperas’ photography and band cover/label art. Lots of shoes, legs and faceless or below the neckline shots. Wasn’t quite sure what to make of the movie, the soundtrack was pretty good though. It’s being released as a limited 3×7” set with stills from the movie. Acting was pretty bad but i suppose thats much of the point, it seems like it would have been fun to make. It was very kitschy and we rather appreciated the live soundtrack.

Things that are wrong: Ting Tings

“That’s not my name” that’s right it should be arse. Headlining festivals, in ipod ads, in my saturday paper and violating my ears with their uninspired and insipid brand of pop music.  Don’t get me wrong, I like pop music almost unabashedly it can be common denominator and  a wonderful thing at times. Anyways i digress in case you didn’t notice i can’t stand them, they’re shit.

Jamie Lidell, Koko

Caught Jamie Lidell at Koko recently touring his new album Jim. He has a band now and though we didn’t recognise many of the new tunes it feels a more organice soulful progression from his previous works.

The highlight though was when it was him on stage with some gear, sampling himself and messing about with it to build layers. It sounds a well put together album and a pretty polished show, a few of the tracks have a definite crossover potential.

Running Up That Hill

Helping me pass the time packing has been this hot three hour mix by the Unabombers from the Bodytonic podcast.

They also got a mix from man of the moment Robert Hood.

Dodgy flashback alert courtesy of the Unabombers mix…

Róisín Murphy at iTunes Live

We were lucky to win a couple of tickets to see Róisín Murphy as part of iTunes Live at AIR Studios (very cool old church) the other weekend. It was a lovely intimate show with no more than 100 people in the audience.

The girl can sing and they sounded great live. It was stripped back and the band performed great acoustic versions of songs off the Overpowered album. The show finished up with a duet with Tony Christie
