Party

Easter Bank Holiday

Loads of stuff on and plenty of shenanigans to be had. Bazza in town so prolly ended up out more than we’d normally have. Bang Face friday night. Yes the crowd was a pretty varied (read ugly) bunch but Aux 88 were a class act live as was the aceed craziness of Universal Indicator. Electrowerkz is such a crusty venue, perfect for the party but it’ll take a lot to get me back there.

Mooched about Notting Hill sunday with Barry, squeezing in some breakfast at Tom’s Deli, a beer, a snack, shoe shopping and some spanish groceries. Kicked a few goals. Barry’s itchy feet landed us on a cab tour of London Sunday night as we had planned nothing. We drove past all the major sites Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster, Green Park, Piccadilly Circus, London Bridge. Checkd the Lodge but it was one in one out and chances of entry were slim as they were closing the doors not long after midnight. Attempted Lost cos it was the only other place we knew how to get to but it was chaos at the door and nothing is worth queueing that long for.

Monday saw us at sosho for Idjut Boys and Darshan Jesrani. It was a daytime affair and after a few hours and some cocktails reality and threat of work kicked in. The published set times were rubbish and we had to leave half way through the Idjut Boys set which was coming together nicely with lots of electroboogie, afro and disco. Strange crowd but there was one slag giving major interpretive dance action reall badly, she didn’t find a single beat. I wanted to roshambo her and the retard boyfriend who was egging her on. By Steve’s account the Idjut’s rocked it and Jesrani’s set was wicked finishing in the wee hours. Shame but it was a school night…

LTJ Bukem / Felix Da Housecat

Both in one night. Crazy. Thats how we like to live innit? LTJ Bukem and MC Conrad were at Home Club. Nice sound system but the layers of steps leading to a very small dancefloor were a pain as was a large ill placed column (prolly supporting the building). Bukem didn’t use headphones which kind of irked me, don’t know why… mixing or whatever was smooth and seamless and music was good for what it was though it didn’t move me in any way and we tired of it rather quickly.

Executive decision made and a quick taxi ride later we were at Zouk catching the start of Felix Da Housecat’s set. Some jackin Chicago traxx, electroclashhousesynthpop and disco no bullshit just loads of trashy good fun music. He played a crazy old acid track I recognise but don’t know we asked about and he shrugged his shoulders and said he wasn’t sure (he was playing off CDs). Home for a snack and a quick snooze and up intime for brunch at the Grand Hyatt…

Moody KDJ @ Plastic People

The enigmatic KDJ returned to Plastic People saturday night. Was looking forward to plenty of anecdotes, MCing and mish mash of tunes.

Mostly a Hoxtditch crowd and a wall of fanboy trainspotters up the front around the decks. Pretty unpleasant at times on the dancefloor and prolly much worse for the Moody one who didn’t seem to be enjoy himself as much as the last time.

I can understand why he sometimes requests to play from behind a screen. Very quiet on the mic and tune selection was more random and much less cohesive than last time though. We still managed some fun bootay shaking moments on the floor but spent a lot of time around the bar…

I-f

.. IF ONLY it weren’t at Fabric. He played pretty darned late so we were waiting a while and had to deal with the usual uber club annoyances and angst’s. We went at Steve’s request having been impressed enough at I’f’s set at the Key a month or so ago to break a long standing “No Fabric” rule.

Detroit In Effect (live?) were fun as was Alden Tyrell before. I enjoyed I-f’s set though its kinda frustrating to be in a room where half the people seem to have no interest in the music? I’m glad he didn’t do an entire set of italo mixing in house, acid, electro and your recent Clone and mod italo stuffs.

Anyone in Sydney going to this?

This sent to an email address i just reactivated yesterday…

Steve Rachmad @ Superstring

Fan of his productions but not seen Rachmad dj or live yet so am curious to know what y’all reckon.

We missed loads on in during the bank holiday weekend (2 weekends ag) might go against better judgement to see I-f at Fabric in a couple of weekends. Not too sure what’s on this weekend, feeling a tad anti-social of late. Think i came back to madness at work which added to trouble adjusting and think we’re suffering major post holiday depression…
