Spent an all too brief few days relaxing in Bermuda. It’s a quick 2 hour flight from NY and feels a million miles away. It seemed so quiet. Not sure if we chose a good weekend as we expected tourists and cruise ship hordes. We stayed in Shelly Bay on the northern side of the island and a long way from resorts which probably helped.
The buildings and customs smacked of colonial Britain with a laid back friendly island vibe, maybe it’s the azure waters and humidity. There are some beautiful beaches most located on the south of the island. With mention of pink sandy beaches, I was expecting bright pink sand at the beaches. There’s flecks of pink that took us a while to notice. I think it’s prawn and lobster shells
The buses and ferries cover most of the island but a scooter is probably the best way to get around the small island and check out the beaches, towns and lush tropical gardens and grounds inland and get lost and find a park where free range chickens bum rush you expecting to be fed.
We didn’t get a real sense of local cuisine though it’s not a foodie destination. Plus if i couldn’t enter the dining room in shorts i wasn’t that bothered to check it out. Food can be pricey as everything is imported. Had a couple meals in English style pubs (only better cos you were by the ocean) and ended up eating Italian for dinner most nights. A word of caution too as the restaurants close early! We tried to go to one place on Sunday night that was supposedly open to 10:30 but was shuttered up by 9:30pm and were happy to have found something open (even if it was Italian!)
Any trip where your toughest decision is which beach and which swimming costume to wear can’t be bad.

Bermuda , Bahama come on pretty mama… First thing that came to mind when I read this LOL!
Sounds like some well deserved R & R!
That’s basically how we decided on the location. We wrote down all the places from that song and put them into a hat… et voila Bermuda was the first one to be pulled out ;-P
